Don't you remember Charlie Silver across the road from you Mike? In fact I think he is still there! And wasn't there a Mrs Blackmore a few doors from you who had a sweet shop for a very short time in her front room to save us the long trek to Phillip's shop on Tudor Street!!

When my parents were alive - up to 2002 - I think he was still in Darran. Still, he stayed in the Rhondda.

At the North end of Rhondda Terrace accross Brook St was the Grammar school built to show EH from the air.
(War-time Emergency Hospital.)
The E bit is still seen but what has happened to the H bit? I can't remember a primary school here. The road facing bottom bit of the H was the car park and the enclosed bits of the E were quadrangles.
Did they bring in a comp?

The old grammar school became the Junior School when the one down by the river was burnt down some years ago by idiotic youngsters. Prior to that, the Comprehensive School was built at the top end of Highfield Industrial Estate, and this and the old grammar school were used until the comprehensive was extended.
I recall the "EH" being mentioned as some-one also said it was the headmaster's initials - Emrys Howells!!
However, I walked from Blaenllechau to the Grammar School - even in the snow - can you imagine the younger children walking up those hills?

Hi Bouncer. Do you remember my aunty Kitty and uncle Frank who used to live with the Welhams?
I think uncle Frank was related to them somehow. Aunty Kitty and uncle Frank moved to Frederick Street
when the Welhams moved.

Hello 'phillips'

I was brought up at No 21 from 1946 to 1968 and my parents moved to No 6 about 1980, but both have died now. I think your house may have been a sort of special order house when Darran Terrace was being built, hence its different design. On the 1911 census a Henry Davies, manager of the Co-operative Stores lived there. Are you from Ferndale?
