Looking for any information on my great-great grandfather Nathaniel Roach who was one of the victims of the 1867 explosion.
I've managed to trace him from birth in Pembrokeshire in 1832, his marriage to Mary Evans in Carmarthen who was the mother of my great grandfather John, born in 1855.
Nathaniel was in Bate House , Aberdare in 1851 as a servant to Susannah Williams , a shopkeeper but I lose trace of him after that until the disaster in 1867.
I know his father Thomas was also a miner in Aberdare in 1861 then appears as a lamp inspector living in Double Row, Llanwonno in the 1871 census.
Also is there a memorial to the men and boys who died.
Many thanks.

John

I just wondered if you are aware that a local organization, Ferndale Grassroots, is looking for descendants of those who died in Ferndale in 1867? The 150th anniversary is to be marked in Ferndale on November 8. As yet, they've only managed to find one (me), so I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. Here is the Facebook post on the subject, which I think is a public post so you should be able to see it I hope:
