my grandfather, leslie caradg jones was born in ferndale sept 1908
he had 2 brothers william and tudor
tudor was married to jemima
mothers name gladys,fathers name unknown
leslie carodog was married to a local girl in the early 20's,they had a daughter flossie.
in 25/26 the brothers left ferndale and came to live in cornwall in search of work.
flossie stayed with maternal grand mother(maybe her mother had died in connection with child birth)
flossie died as a toddler/baby.
their mother gladys re-married and became waters, she came to join her sons in the early 1950's in liskeard cornwall where all 3 sons lived, tudor and jemima, had no children, william married judy and had son called vince, leslie married ivy, their only son leslie(1927).
i wish i knew more details,i doubt if there is anybody left in ferndale that knew the family..my family,my father recalls very little.
iam very proud of my heritage, proud to have welsh blood.would like to think i had a relative still in the valley.

Hello Ann and David,

As you can see, I am having a great time now that I have managed to get sorted out, thanks to the endeavours of Mochyn.

I cannot help wondering if I might have known some of these people I am reading about. I have lots of memories of Ferndale anyway, from different eras.

We walked up to Ferndale to the baths in the summer, but caught the bus back from outside the Chinese Laundry. The paint on the shop front was green. Everything seemed to be painted green in those days. Doors and windows of shops I mean. I can remember us stretching up to high window, to see if we could spot the man doing the ironing.

I bought my first records in the corner shop in Duffryn Street. Was it Barkway's? Cannot really remember the name. My first buy was by Bill Haley. See you later Aligator. On the back of the record, B side. It was Paperboy. :D

Thank you to all that helped me to get on here.

Maureen
