"Refreshment House"

My great, great, grandfather was Philip Pendry who, in 1911 lived at 61 Brynhyfryd Terrace, Ferndale. According to the 1911 census he was a 'refreshment house keeper'.
My mother remembers that she was told by her mother that this 'refreshment house' was a fish and chip shop and there was a fire there, caused by the maid in the attic knocking over a candle.
I wonder if anyone has any history or knowledge of the Pendry family in Ferndale -- or whewre this 'refreshment house' may have been.

Thanks,
Antony

I was told that there was a Coffee Tavern between Brown Street and New Street. It was a big building on the end of the street and still had a shabby sign painted on the end wall saying it was a coffee tavern. People lived in a small part of it when I was a little girl, but I don't think they were there, when I was in my teens.--- But it was still !!!
