Eight Welsh Singing Miners

Postby brianblaenboy » Tue Nov 30, 2010 8:45 pm

I've tried to find out more about this but have failed - so, in my humble opinion, as many of you have a better knowledge of the past, I'll pose the question:-

My grandfather - EVAN JOHN EVANS, former fireman at No 2 & 5 Pits in his time (I think that's right) was listed as being one of the original - and they went round the country raising money for the striking miners - does anyone have any idea if this is true? The information I have was listed on his obituary in 1952.

I have a photograph of 7 singing colliers, my grandfather (Thomas John Jones aka Tommy Becca) is one of them, you you think it might be the same people ?

How do you insert a photograph on your post ?

As I recall my grandfather, he always had a moustache, and he was tall. None of those in the picture look like the photo I have of him which is around the 1930's. There was something called "EIGHT WELSH MINERS IN A COAL MINE - A NOVELTY ACT - SCREAMING COMEDY COMBINED WITH GOOD SINGING" and between March 1924 (starting with Ferndale) to October 1924, they toured the country including Belfast; Dublin; North East; North West. The trouble is I have no way of knowing who these 8 men were.
