This is a portion of the Ogmore school music camp (1962 I think).
People came from all over East Glam to do orchestral music in the summer hols

The teacher above the guy with no hair was from Ferndale but I don't think he taught at Ferndale, but His mother ran a corner shop in Dyffryn Street on the corner below Dunstan's Church (Ayron Street and opposite the Ferndale Hotel.
I think the name was Roberts.

Anybody confirm this?

He is Ritchie Roberts and is still alive but living outside the Rhondda now. He is my second cousin and may still teaching music privately.

Yes, Bessie was my grandmother's half sister. Around about 1920 she and two of her sisters emigrated to Australia which to me seems an incredibly brave thing for them to embark on, but Bessie came back possibly to look after her mother. I have no idea of how the other two fared. I think it's possible to check passenger lists somewhere so I might try that at sometime.

The young dark haired girl in front of John Pitt looks very much like a young Helena Braithwaite. I have no idea of course - she looks very like her and Helena became the Music Adviser for South Glamorgan and conductress of the Ardwyn Singers.

My apologies if I am completely wrong!!!
