Ferndale Grammar School Eisteddfod

Postby daveporthcawl » Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:04 pm

Happy St David's Day to all Forum Viewers. Perhaps a good time to reflect on the great times we had on this day at FGS.
The houses were Caradog-Blue, Ceiriog-Yellow, Glyndwr-Red and Islwyn-Green.
In my years from 1943/50 my House (Caradog) never won until 1950 when we managed to pull it off with good results in the competitions for Music, Poetry, Essay, Art, Woodwork and of course the Gymnastics....................
Zoom Zoom Zaki, Zoom Zoom Zay, Kabishika Kabishika,Kabishika Kabay,
Ikemarera, Ikemarera, The Blues, The Blues Hurray................never chanted so loudly.
What happened in the later years? When did Caradog repeat the victory?
Dave

Can't remember the results Dave but still remember the song!-

Ceiriog is the house thats best
Shout till the rafters ring
We will take the shield from te rest
Let every guy in Ceiriog sing
Red & Green & Blue look out
Victory is what we bring
So hip hip hooray for Ceiriog
The yellow house is going to win
C-E-I-R-I-O-G

regards Howard

Leeks or daffodils? Well everyone knew the real St David's day symbol was the leek. The girls may choose a daff and a black Welsh hat, but no self respecting lad would come without a leek and by the end of the day would have proved his manhood by eating the lot raw!!

I was in Glyndwr and can only remember the words 'we'll keep the red flag flying high' the same as the Labour Party!! My sister Eileen and I used to sing duets in the Eisteddfod because we were both in the same house. I loved March 1st.

I was in Caradog, and have no idea who won. Did enter the essay competition though.

Being St David's Day, I feel I can tell this true story:- In 1971, Prince Charles visited the Royal Regiment of Wales in Osnabruck during our St David's Day and he ate the leek and drank his half pint in the Officer's Mess.
