Is this what was known as the banana tip? It's from a press photo I bought on ebay. It has some words on the back which I'll post shortly.

Wonderful, thanks very much for making my mind go backwards. I remember walking on the top of that lot before the pits closed. Best 'PLAYSTATION" ever invented was the whole side of that mountain, and wimberries in August. Interesting to note that even in 1966, it was known that the end of coal mining was coming, and I read that in the local paper as well. Questions were being asked:- "What will this valley do when there is no coal being dug?"

Well, you're very welcome. I was pleased to find it for sale so I could add it to my own collection, but it's good to share it so others can enjoy it too. From what my parents told me, it was already apparent in the 1930s that things were in decline. My mother's family remained in Wales until after WW2, but my father's family left in search of work in the late 1930s. It's sad to see the decline, especially after the importance of Welsh coal earlier on in the history of the British Empire.
