Taff Street, Ferndale ... or is it Blaen

A lovely view of Taff Street, from a card posted in 1907. On the right is what I've been told was the Station Master's cottage but do correct me if you know better. I love the piles of coal in the street, as if the chaps hadn't worked hard enough digging it up in the first place, they had to come home to break up more coal and carry it through the house in a tin bath.

It certainly was the station masters cottage, known as such in the 1940's when my school friend
Brenda Williams lived there, though Ferndale had ceased to have a station master by then.
My cousins the Battens lived just opposite, delivering groceries by horse & cart for Mrs Ellis' shop on the top
corner of the street.

Have you lived long in Ferndale Bob? How did you come by the Taff Street photo?

I have lived around ferndale for most of my life, still here now
the photo was handed to me by my late fathers cousin who lived in taff st
my grandparents also came from taff street also
their houses are in the background of the pic i posted

It may have been termed a cottage but it had several rooms and a cellar. I lived in 52 but later moved to 88. Had to join another gang. My recollection is that it was still a working station way into the 50's. Billy Williams (a guard), his wife and children Brenda and Gwynn. Also First Wold War veteran (Tom) lived in the basement and the unfortunate chap suffered bouts of "she'll shock". Brenda and Gwynn were both fine pianists, both passed on now. Gwynn lived in Tasmania and helped found an orchestra. Died there a few years ago. I used to spend a lot of my time playing with Gwynn.
Colin Anstee bought the station but don't know about the house.
